It’s been about a year since we’ve heard anything from the OCZ camp, but it turns out that they are still kicking. With their latest announcement, OCZ is jumping into the value-oriented SSD market with their new Trion 100 series.
The Trion 100 series from OCZ is actually a bit of a bold step, as they are trying to show that value doesn’t have to come at the cost of performance. Available capacities are nothing surprising, as the Trion 100 will be available in sizes of 120GB, 240GB, 480GB, and 960GB typically seen in modern SSDs. Where OCZ is trying to distinguish the line is on performance and longevity.
The Trion 100 SSDs will be using premium Toshiba-branded TLC NAND Flash. OCZ is now owned by Toshiba after all. This choice will mean both sequential write and random read speeds in the 500MB/s+ range. The Trion 100 should also last a long time, as they are rated at up to 240TB total bytes written (TBW). Should your drive fail, OCZ provides a 3-year warranty directly.
No mention of pricing or availability has been made, but once these drives come out, it’ll be interesting to see if they manage to make a mark for OCZ. In the meantime, you can check out the press release below for more info.
