Well, I sure feel like a Luddite here, resigned to stare at my poor little flat computer monitor. The name of the game is to go bigger and to go curvier these days. And if you can throw in an added bonus like built-in stereo speakers, then you’re totally golden. Say hello to the Philips Brilliance UltraWide Curved LCD Display (the name just rolls off the tongue), otherwise known as the BDM3490UC. It’s a 34-inch display with a panoramic 21:9 cinematic aspect ratio.

The new monitor comes by way of a company called EPI, which is the brand license partner for Philips Monitors in the North American market. What you get with the BDM3490UC is a curved LCD, rocking a total ultrawide QHD aspect ratio of 3440 x 1440 pixels. In addition to the pair of 7W speakers, you also get the option for dual inputs. This means one half of the screen can come from your gaming console, while the other half is populated by your notebook PC.

Of course, most people will just use it as a single, really wide display for ultimate multitasking and a cinematic-like movie-watching or game-playing experience. Or you could look at the full width of your extra-wide TPS reports and Excel spreadsheets, since Philips is generally more focused on productivity than the gaming market.

All of the key specs are contained within the press release below. The newest Philips curved LCD monitor is on sale now for $999.99, though the list price is $200 more.
