Even though we are not physically present in Las Vegas for CES this year, we’re more than happy to keep you guys up to date with the latest in gadgets and technology. A great example of this comes from our friends at Kingston Digital. We’ve seen the progression of the MobileLite Wireless range over the years and now they’ve introduced two new additions to the family: the MobileLite Wireless G3 and the MobileLite Wireless Pro.
The natural evolution of the line has led us to the MobileLite Wireless G3. Like its predecessors, it’s a wireless access point where you can plug in a USB drive or SD card and share that data with your mobile devices over Wi-Fi. There’s also a 5400mAh battery inside allowing this device to work as a power bank for your smartphones or tablets via the faster 2A USB charging ports too.
Perhaps of more interest in the MobileLite Wireless Pro. It takes everything that you get with the MobileLite Wireless G3, but it comes with 64GB of internal storage in addition to its USB port and SD card slot. They’ve also bumped the battery capacity to 6700 mAh for extra juice. You’ll notice that the overall design has changed too, but it’s still mostly familiar and you still get to use the familiar MobileLite app on your Apple or Android device of choice. Pricing has yet to be determined, but pre-orders are being taken now.
Also at CES, Kingston Digital announced its newest encrypted USB flash drive in the DataTraveler 2000. You get hardware encryption and PIN protection by way of the built-in alphanumeric keypad. If you have particularly private and confidential data on your flash drive, you want to make sure it doesn’t get into the wrong hands.
As you can imagine, this kind of flash drive isn’t being targeted so much at the regular consumer as much as it is at the global security IT market, particularly among small and medium-sized businesses. The drive itself is OS independent and you get full disk AES 256-bit data encryption in XTS mode. No software or hardware drivers are needed on your computer, because it’s all handled on the USB drive itself.
Expect the DataTraveler 2000 to ship later on in Q1 in 16GB, 32GB and 64GB capacities at prices yet to be determined. Peep both press releases below for further details.
