When you really need storage space or need universal transportation for it via SneakerNet, you reach for your tried and true USB flash drive. And if you want to get it off the drive fast, you put it on one of your normally larger USB 3.0 drives. But this isn’t always the best option for tablet use as the large appendage can get in the way of normal use. Now you can keep all the external portable storage space and keep the USB drive out of your way with the Mushkin Atom series of USB 3.0 flash drives.
The Mushkin Atom USB 3.0 seems to merge all the best features of USB drives. It uses less than 1 watt of power at full load, is extremely low profile, and is available in capacities up to 32GB which should be enough storage for most tasks. It also boasts read speeds of 155 MB/s and write speeds of 21.5 MB/s. With speeds like that, this could be the easiest way to expand the storage on portable media players, tablets, and ultrabooks etc.
Still not impressed? What if I told you that the Mushkin Atom USB 3.0 flash drive can be found for as low as $24.99US for the largest 32 GB model (and of course less for the smaller ones). I am not sure if that was a question or a statement, but either way this is a great price on an extremely versatile USB 3.0 flash drive. Check out the press release below for more details.
Dec 18, 2013 — Mushkin, Inc., an industry-leading designer and manufacturer of high-performance and mission-critical computer products, has introduced the new Atom USB 3.0 flash drive. The Atom USB 3.0 flash drive emphasizes its convenience with an extremely small form-factor — just under the size of a quarter. The Atom USB 3.0 flash drive is also backwards compatible with USB 2.0 and 1.1. The 8GB model offers 80 MB/s read, 5.5 MB/s write, and consumes 0.65 W while idle, or 0.905 W at load. The 32 GB model reads at 155 MB/s with 21.5 MB/s write, and low power consumption of 0.2475 W when idle and 0.75 W under load.
The miniature size of the Atom USB 3.0 flash drive enables users to leave the flash drive into the USB port while working on-the-go without obstruction. Beyond its primary role as a USB flash drive for external storage, the Atom offers inherent versatility for tablet and slim notebook users to plug-in and leave as secondary device storage with its low power usage.
“The Atom USB flash drive is designed with ultimate portability and convenience in mind. Having such a small and accommodating size eliminates the need to eject the flash drive and risk losing it when mobile,” said Brian Flood, the Director of Product Management at Mushkin, Inc. “For our users who regularly use slimmer, portable devices such as tablets, the Atom is a definite solution when you need extra storage on a daily basis.”
