CES 2014 – Philips Embraces NVIDIA G-Sync in New 27″ Gaming Monitor

Many of you saw the video recap of Nvidia’s new G-SYNC techology and how it is supposed to work. You also noticed that in order for the system to work, your monitor has to support it with proprietary hardware. Philips looks to be one of the first to provide you with one of the first G-Sync Gaming Monitors in the 27″ Philips 272G5DYEB.

The monitor has pretty good specs. It’s got a 1920 x 1080 display with 5 ms standard response time, 300 cd/m² illumination, and four plains of adjustment. If they left it at that, this would only be a very average monitor. However, when you switch on the Nvidia G-SYNC technology, that’s when the magic happens. Then you get the 144 Hz refresh rate and 1 ms OD response time. To achieve this, the monitor does only support DisplayPort as an input so your NVIDIA graphics card must have one.

In combination with Nvidia G-SYNC, this is supposed to completely eliminate lag, stutter, and graphical tearing in-game. It is basically V-Sync on steroids and without the input lag so you can experience every game in full glory without sacrificing any image quality. The Philips G-SYNC monitor will be available this Spring for an MSRP of $649.

Now if only they could make the bezel a lot thinner,  it’d be perfect. Full press release below.

Philips 27” Monitor with NVIDIA G-SYNC Delivers Smoothest and Fastest Gaming Experience Ever

Advanced Philips gaming display that eliminates tearing, stuttering and lag debuts at the 2014 International CES

Jan. 5, 2014 – The Philips 27” Gaming Monitor with G-SYNC debuts today bringing a stunning visual experience and ultra-smooth play to gamers looking for a serious competitive edge. This advanced Philips gaming display (model 272G5DYEB) delivers revolutionary performance through NVIDIA G-SYNC, a new technology that synchronizes display refresh rates to the PC’s GPU, eliminating screen tearing and minimizing display stutter and input lag. With G-SYNC, images display the moment they are rendered, scenes appear instantly, objects are sharper, and game play is smoother.

The Philips 27” Gaming Monitor with G-SYNC will be showcased at the 2014 International CES in Las Vegas at both Pepcom’s Digital Experience! event and the NVIDIA booth, which is located at LVCC, South Hall 3 – 30207. The display will be available for purchase in spring 2014 for $649 MSRP.

In addition to delivering consistently smooth frame rates and ultrafast response through G-SYNC display technology, the Philips 27” Gaming Monitor offers 144Hz refresh rate with 1ms response time for fast action, 300 cd/cm2 brightness and a 1000:1 typical contrast ratio, and displays up to 16.7M colors. The slim black monitor is both wall mountable and height adjustable.

“This 27-inch Philips monitor is a perfect gaming partner, with G-SYNC technology bringing breakthrough display performance and giving major competitive edge,” said Chris Brown, TPV Global Product Marketing. “We believe anyone who really cares about their gaming experience is going to want a G-SYNC-enabled display.”
