PayPal is Watching YOU!

  Submitted: 10-25-2006

 Summary:
PayPal is kind of like a loan shark or a bookie. They don't have a license to operate, but they handle your monetary tranactions. If they don't like you, they can do whatever they want with you (though reports of them offing people may be highly exaggerated). Here are some horrors for you to ponder.

We're Not A Bank. But We Hold Your Money.

I really don’t mean to make you paranoid; I just mean to add a healthy dose of cynicism to your everyday online experience. I have been a PayPal user for many years and I’ve personally witnessed some totalitarian tendencies (sort of a Big Brother complex) in this online mega-company that I would like to share with you. In the classic novel entitled 1984, George Orwell has a prophetic vision of a world where we are all are subject to a “big brother” who demands our complete obedience in both our actions and our thoughts. If you are a PayPal user you better read over your terms and conditions again because hundreds can tell you from first hand experience that PayPal has no qualms about taking your money if you do not obey all of their silly regulations.

A friend of mine was making a decent living working with a well-respected, twenty-year-old Multi-level Marketing business when PayPal suddenly decided to freeze her account. She had to hire a lawyer to get her hard earned money back. She was unable to access her funds all because PayPal suddenly decided they didn't like Multi-Level Marketing . In the words of Big Brother, (clear throat), I mean PayPal, “PayPal prohibits Multi-level Marketing plans whether or not they are legal .” So PayPal decides they don’t like MLMs. That’s fine; they can do what they want. But to actually take control of someone’s money just because of their little self righteous policy is obnoxious and wrong.

If my friend had such a terrible experience with PayPal then I figured there were probably others that had similar ordeals. I thought I’d write about one or two in this article, however, once I started researching I found that there were just too many such stories to pick from. I decided I should just tell you, dear readers, that you should be very concerned about this if you do any online business with PayPal because the evidence is all over the internet. Just do a Google search (in quotes) on the phrase “PayPal closed my account” and, believe me, even if you were as chipper as a mouse before, you will be a cynical paranoid after. When you are done, check out this cartoon ; it speaks truth better than words. If you still need convincing (and you’ve got all day) you can go here to read about many more people who had their PayPal accounts closed.
