I almost had sushi today but I was too hungry to wait...BWAHAHAHAA

I seem to stick the same kinds all the time. I prefer the rolls to the hunks of rice. You know what I"m sayin'??!! Unagi is one my favourites...*thinking back to Friends ...UNAGI *

I introduced him to it in such a way that he wouldn't be totally grossed out before the sushi meet. We had a Nikko boat which consisted of:

California Rolls
Futomaki
Chicken Karage
Beef Teriyaki on Rice
Tempura
Gyoza
Sunomono Sald
Miso Soup

and fresh fruit..

I was however going to go with the other boat but I didn't think he was ready for variations of Sashimi, Oyster Motoyaki, and much more..

I love Sashimi! :) YUM!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I love sushi, but I'm not too adventurous. I stick to California roll, BC roll, Dynamite roll, those types.

I love beef Teriyaki on rice, mix it all up, yum, yum, yum.

I'll eat cooked oysters but I don't know about the raw ones anymore. I saw oysters (on tv) lapping up the ocean floor, and they stopped looking appetizing from that point onward .

If Japanese restaurants are hard to come by, you might be able to find some teriyaki place in a mall food court. Sometimes they'll have sushi there. :approve:

I'm sure we have some kind of sushi restaurant around here, however..hmmm

When I think St. Louis, it reminds me of two things:

St Louis Blues and Nelly with the St. Lunatics! :p

you can't just pick any old sushi place,,,, as Splitfyre keeps telling me,,, there are good sushi and bad sushi places,,,, you don't wanna have a bad first experience!!

RosieTulips

The worst sushi is where they put too much vinegar in the rice and the ingredients aren't fresh. Blech!!

I think you should try sushi before you visit, so you can compare when you get here!!:p

yeah I know what you mean,, I don't like it when the vinegar taste sticks out,,, it is supposed to be a mild taste!

RosieTulips

..are you talking about sunomono salad? It's supposed to be in a vinegar sauce! :)

Sushi rice has vinegar in it. You put a little bit in it before you cook it. What it does? I don't really know. I never bothered to find out.

RosieTulips

I found the answer to this one...or at least I think I did...

...Rice vinegar is essential to making proper sushi rice as it adds flavor and allows the rice to stick together while forming sushi.

From this site (http://www.sushifoods.com/Vinegar1.html)

I knew what the vinegar was for,,, as I have made sushi in the past,, but I have noticed in my past sushi experiences that some places put a lot of vinegar or too much vinegar in the rice,, which would turn me away from the product,,, it is supposed to accent the ingredients not over power them :D

The first time I had sunomono salad, I took a taste and nearly gagged..WOW! That stuff is powerful! Very very good, but what a taste!

mmmm....sunomono is so good! the little shrimps are the best!

And I love the vinegar in the rice...not too much of course.

But the best is the soy sauce/wasabi mix. Without that, sushi just wouldn't be the same!

This thread is soooo old... But it's sooooo...

NUMBER ONE!

how to make motoyaki oysters - Google Search

What's funny is that the number one search has nothing to do with this thread really!
