"Imagine a mousepad made of glass and specially designed for percise mouse ball rolling. Sure, it looks cool but does it work? We got our hands on a pair and have field tested them for the past month. Come see what we found out."

My only concern with this mousepad is whether or not it would work effectively with optical mice. I'm presuming this would be a challenge, because it might be hard for the optical sensor to detect movement on such a surface.

Big Guy: I got an email asking a simular question. I don't know how to answer that since I don't own an optical mouse and recieved my black icemat a little on the late side to try and barrow one.
I can however direct you to a somewhat hidden quote on the icemat website:
Except for the Black Icemat which does support the use of Microsoft IntelliMouse Explorer 3.0 and wireless edition, neither of the two Icemats officially support the use of optical mice.
Judging by the looks of the Black Icemat I would assume it would work great. I'll still try and get my hands on an optical to let everyone know, since that seems to be the question of the day.
And yes, when I'm not mousing I'm chopping onions or making bread sticks! mmm.. bread sticks.

When customers come to buy a mouse from and they ask about the optical (lazer) mouse, I also mention it will not work on a mirror or glass type surface.
Mainly the sensor is at an angel to the LED and needs to have the light near it to be picked up.. if this makes no sense.. tough luck
