I've blocked out the really nasty memories, but here's a vote ... Ever have fancy Japanese kaiseki-ryori? I remember once, at a formal dinner, there was a small crab in one corner of the plate. I'm not talking about a borderline-illegal dungeness here, this fellow was the kind that you see scrambling around the rocks on the shoreline -- about 2 inches across! How in the heck do you eat something like that? Pull its little legs off and try to get the millimetre of meat inside? Well the answer was, as I looked around the table, to pop the whole thing in your mouth -- shell, claws, eyes, yup everything. CRUNCH! And I felt like I was gonna hurl. But now that I have truly realized my Japanese heritage, it's no big deal. "If it swims, we eat it." And my Chinese heritage. "You gonna eat that part?" Lemmy-Boy May 8th, 2002, 12:10 AM Hey Bender! You forgot to add an ending "T" to the word "Strangest". I'll stick to my "egg rolls" thank you..... But egg rolls...are what you find in the cookie aisle!! lowlight May 9th, 2002, 11:43 AM Well I've had what they call "Spring Rolls" in Chinese restaurants, and they are nothing like real Viet spring rolls... Some of them have meat inside, which basically goes against everything that makes them 'spring rolls' in the first place! But I don't know what else to call the Chinese ones, and I guess the restaurants don't either... |
