I had heard awhile back that these two were going to merge and was wondering if it had happened yet? I want to go to sattelite radio but thought I would just wait until the merger took place but I have not heard anymore about it lately. Has anyone heard any more on this? Thanks.

I have been wondering myself. it was big news for a while and now nothing. I bet I could find out if I google it. What worried me is if they get that couldn't they just set any prices they want? who could challenge them?

That is true they would have the market that's for sure. I know it seems weird that it was such big news at one time and then nothing.

I have both: Sirius at home and XM in the car. Both of them sound about the same to me, but I prefer XM for the music selection.

Funny, I just picked up pamphlets for both at Best Buy. I am really looking forward to finding something in my price range for the car. I am sick of regular radio!

I have only used them while renting a car in the US. I donīt know which one, but I was listening to the comedy channels and that was great!

I bought shares of both companies a while back and the merger went through a couple of months ago, if I remember correctly. I am just really glad I bought stock in both companies!

It went through already? Then I wonder why you can still sign up for either one of them still? I do know that Sirrus is running a pretty good special right now from what I was told.

That's weird, I did not know that the two companies were merging either. I guess it would be a smart move for the companies, but what about the fact that prices are most likely going to be raised due to that.

I hear that although they're merging, their content will be a little different. I am not sure?!

AFAIK, in Canada, they will remain distinct entitites...for now...

The stocks have been merged throughout both companies as far as I can tell. The outline of the proposed stock reconfiguration came back in October. The broadcasts will be handled separately, each maintaining its separate style.
Think of it like Kraft Foods. They have several divisions and companies under their umbrella. Each has separate product lines, advertising budgets and the like. Their identities remain separate for the public, but the corporation is Kraft and stock can be issued under the umbrella name.

Thanks, SageMother, for the information. I was not aware of the whole merge, but I understand it a lot better now.

See I had heard that you would be able to listen to stations from either one once the merger is done. I take it that is not the case now?

I have no clue. I just bought the stock and never listen to the stations as I won't pay for satellite radio! LOL

I am with you that I thought I would never pay for it either but I have heard some pretty good shows on it. That and I like the no commercials.

I would (and most likely will) pay for satellite radio. I am tired of the radio in the car, and they just seem to offer so much that I can't usually get. I can afford it right now, so I will try to get it this month.

I think from what I have heard that Sirrus is giving you a free radio and hookup. All you have to do is buy the subscription.

I started to buy XM for just that reason, then I found out that is not true. Only the music channels have no ads, the talk stations still have them and that sucks!!! I am not going to pay for channels that are trying to sell to me. I like talk radio some days and music others.

I love satellite radio, but I wonder if it's because I don't have access to it all the time. Maybe the novelty would wear off for me, but I love the variety commercial-free music!

The same thing happened when cable was just an idea. It was supposed to be commercial free too, but only the premium channels are actually commercial free. I am sure this was instisted on by most corporations, afraid that they couldn't reach most of the viewing public.

I heard these satellite radio companies haven't started making money. I think prices have dropped for the accessories over the years, though.
