The debate in the HD dvd format wars for me boils down to one thing...what will people use the most. Like the war between vhs and beta, the best format doesn't always win.

We can discuss the merits and faults with each format based on storage size, video quality, cost of production, etc. But I think that the differences between the two are so small that most consumers will totally ignore them. The only thing that may affect people is the cost of the players It may have an impact. I believe it is small though and the consumer has already made their choice.

In my mind the debate has already been decided by the public. Blu-Ray is outselling HD-DVD two to one. That's a loud statement. Blockbuster has listened to this and is now selling Blu-Ray exclusively. I believe more stores will be following their example soon. The impact of the PS3 and their built in Blu-Ray player may be greater than most anticipated.

Sony has won this format war.
