Have you heard about the guy who had his Ipod in his pocket, and it burst into flames? I guess the problem is the lithium battery (same as with laptop computers).
Its probably enough reason not to sleep with your Ipod near your bed - to say the least.
People are going to have to start leaving their stuff with lithium batteries in metal boxes - or something. (The news thing that it is not known right now how many of these Ipod batteries have burst into flames - if any (the "if any" are my words just in the interest of not wanting to create a big panic). :)

I haven't heard about this issue (with the iPods) until now. Rather disconcerting, to say the least. Talk about your advanced case of "hot pants." LOL.

Yes, I seen this I believe it was yesterday. I am curious to know if this is a problem that is frequent. This I would think cannot be good for the company.

Wow, I had not even heard about this. It's scary to think that I didn't know this, and it's always with me. It's always been either in my purse or in my car. Scary to think that it could catch fire when I'm holding it!

That's the first time I've heard that! My iPod is just collecting dust.

The thing that scares me the most are the number of kids that are now walking around with these and might not know about this problem.

I'm kind of glad my Mp3 player uses a couple of Triple A batteries now. (I've been thinking how it may be nice to have the more advanced Nano - but now I'm re-thinking the thing about how fancy my player needs to be.)

How many laptops have you heard that have burst into flames? Me personally.. none.
Same goes for iPods, I have yet heard of one exploding and if it was a bad thing wouldn't you hear more about it on the news or a recall or something?
Not saying it can't happen, but it could happen with a device running normal alkaline ones too couldnt it?

I haven't heard anything about that, but that doesn't mean it doesn't happen. Maybe it's just in China where most of the iPods have been sold. *shrug*

All I have to say is I hope that this has nothing to do with China or you will see a ton of them being recalled over the next two weeks.

I know its rare. I just think its kind of scary to think of the numbers of people who leave them near their beds and on tables with books, etc., when there's the chance they can burst into flames. (The same thing can happen with cell phones, although as far as I know at least they need to be dropped or hooked up to the charger.) Having an Ipod spring into flames just from being in a pocket is a-whole-nother thing.

I just don't see it happening unless there's a major problem with it to begin with.

I remember reading something yesterday that the Ipod Touch poses a risk of lead poisoning. Along with all the damge it "could" do to your hearing, an ipod is a timebomb waiting to explode !

did anyone hear about the kid who was lawnmowing and got struck by lightning on a sunny day? he was wearing an ipod and it burned a hole in his pocket and the headphones exploded in his ears. he survived though.

I haven't heard about that one. I guess the moral to the story is "just because bad things happen to Ipods it doesn't mean you always die." :)
I know the fire thing is rare for them, cell phones, and laptops - but I keep thinking about how people should really put their potential-fire-bursting gadgets into a metal tin (or something) before they go to sleep. Its one thing if your pocket suddenly catches on fire but another thing if your Ipod pops into flames when its on the night stand and near curtains or blankets, etc.

hahaha well idk about a metal box. no matter how much i like metal boxes i think it's overkill. i think laptop batteries only explode when you hit them with something like a hammer. maybe this should become one of those written hazards that comes with li-ion batteries like the ones that tell you to not put a toaster in the bathtub!

Did this really happen? Or is it just another Urban myth? Aren't there millions of these things out there? Wouldn't it have been on the news or something? I didn't see even one link to a real article, I guess I am just slow to believe anything I haven't seen first hand.

I think I saw a news article about a laptop battery starting a fire. I find that a little surprising.
My MP3 players each use one AAA battery, and I'd be surprised if there was enough current in one of those to start a fire. I wonder how much current is used in an iPod battery?
I'd like to hear a technical explanation about this.

The batteries that have been starting the fires are the lithium batteries used in laptops and in Ipod players.
Cell phone batteries have also been known to break into fire when the device is dropped or left on the charger.
What has been said about these high-powered batteries is that they have so much power in order to do what the devices do they are just a high-risk type of thing in terms of all that power packed into the batteries.
