Just wondering how many people have a blue ray player and how many people will actually get one.

I don't have one, and doubt I will get one. At least not until the technology is more established and the prices come down.

I am with the above poster. Until the prices come down I am not going to be getting one of these. I actually have never used one yet.

Waiting for the shake out between HD DVD and Blue-Ray. I think Blue-Ray will win out but at these prices I am not diving in head first in murky water. I have multiple DVD players now as is so I'm not in a hurry to upgrade just yet. Two in my computer(1 burner, 1 DVD ROM), 1 Samsung 5 disc DVD player and one Cyberhome single DVD player, plus a CD portable player, a Sony Discman and a 52x 32x 52x cd burner, a 36x CD SCSI and finally an 8x 8x 32x CD burner. (I also have a Samsung VHS player.)

I am not in any hurry to buy any product before it is determined which format is going to be dominant. No more Sony screw-ups.

I don't have one, and don't plan on getting one anytime soon. I'm happy with what I have, and the blueray is not even close to being within my price range.

It's Blu-ray BTW ;)

Remember, Blu-ray requires two to tango. You're going to need a 1080p HDTV to really enjoy the full resolution of the discs. So if you don't have the TV, then you aren't going to get the picture.

When I worked in electronics retail, you have no idea how many people tried to plug their DVD players into an RF modulator and complained that they got a picture that looked like regular TV :P

We've reviewed two players and previewed one player that tries to bridge the gap and to both HD-DVD and Blu-ray...

Hey, theres no need for one. Latest version of Cyberlink PowerDVD has a plug-in that supports Blu-Ray movies. Its much cheaper than buying a new DVD player too =)

Yes it does, but you need to buy the $500 Blu-ray or HD-DVD drive to play them. By then, you've spent about a grand on drives, and you will also need a video card that decodes both formats natively. Luckily, 8500 GT's do that for about $150 bones. You'll be able to play both formats, but you're well over what it would have cost you to buy the LG Super-Blu stand alone dual format player. However, now that you have both burners, you can also burn both formats.

I personally don't see blue ray taking over dvd, what do you think?
