I was just reading an advertisement about the new talking caller id's. They certainly would be handy when your hands are full! Do any of you have one or have any opiinions on them?

I am not sure what this is - what kind of an Id is this? And why would this help when your hands are full?

Yes, please explain.

We recently got the caller ID thing on our tv but it drives me nuts. I mean, if you have a bunch of friends over watching a movie do they really need to know who is calling? Not like it really matters I guess.....I don't have a secret boyfriend or anything. I just think it is unnecesary.

And it is annoying if you record a show, watch it later and the caller ID comes up but you did not hear the phone ring. That can be confusing the first time it happens. LOL!

I would not be interested in a talking caller ID. When I am too busy to answer the phone, I am usually doing something that will not be enhanced by a disembodied voice telling me what number is calling. I can always check voice mail later on.

This is a normal phone with a normal caller id that speaks the name of the caller when the phone rings. I would assume it's similar to the one that talks through the tv although I've never seen one of those. How do they run through the tv?

I googled the phone and came up with this website which offers some more information.

As for it being handy when your hands are full...I can't even begin to name the numerous times I've been walking in the door with groceries in one arm and a toddler in the other while the phone is ringing. Also to that extent if I'm busy making dinner I hate to try to see who's calling. I just think there are a lot of cercumstances where this would be an asset!

I have talking Caller ID on my Panasonic Home Phone. It's kinda robotic sounding. It either reads out the number, or it does a butchered job of the name. But I understand it enough to ignore it or not :D

I actually like the caller ID on my TV feature. I guess we don't often have friends over watching TV. :)
I like that I don't have to run to the caller ID to see who is calling. Instead, we glance at the TV and then decide if we will answer it or not.

Does anyone else find that they are getting more phone calls from organizations that are not prevented from calling you? It seems like I get more calls from companies I am currently a customer of than I used to with "special offers" as well as more charity solcititation calls.

Yes I to have been getting alot of charity type calls recently. I personally am not a phone person and don't really need to have caller ID that will tell me whose calling outloud. I usually use my caller ID when I cannot get to the phone right away for some reason so it really wouldn't matter all that much if they said who was calling outloud or not.

You know, we've been getting a lot of calls lately, too. Of course, they're "charitable" organizations, which I don't have a problem with as a general rule. But some of them just seem like bogus names and I don't like it. A speaking caller ID would be nice.

Anytime I get a call about donating to a charitable organization I tell them that I would be happy to review their organization and it's causes if they would like to send me out something via snail mail. I won't make donations over the phone. Too risky as far as I am concerned.

I like the caller ID on my TV. I do not think I would like the voice caller ID.
