Been looking for an email designed for kids and ran across this one, it's built for parental controls and has a simple interface. BUT, it costs to use it. I'm wondering if the peace of mind is worth the slight cost?

I will have to check it out. I hadn't realized that they had things like this for kids. At least not email made specifically for kids.

What are the benefits to this email for kids vs. using another email with parental controls? How can this email system truly protect kids? Even a program like Net Nanny seems to have its flaws.
We plan on having various email addresses for our kids, but have all the emails come to the same place. Then, we can create separate folders for each child. We can screen for "bad" emails and let them read their own.

That's just the thing. I'm not sure there is a benefit. We set our daughter up with a Yahoo addy, she only emails specific people (family and a few friends) and can only access the Net in our living room so we see all the mail anyway.

My son has a yahoo address, but only used it sign up for a Neopets membership, which I think has since expired. I'm the one that keeps the account active. I don't think that he even remembers the password!

I have talked with a lot of parents about keeping the computer in full view and you are rare. Congrats.

We keep our computer in a separate room right now as our daughter doesn't use it....she is only a year old. When she starts to use the computer darn rights it will be in the living room.
When my step son comes to stay with us he is not allowed to use the computer unless he asks and then we know what he is doing on it at all times and keep checking up on him. He is 11 and not a real socialite though so he is not into emailing and Instant Messaging. He likes to play Sims games.

Thank you. :) My spouse and I are both computer geeks and educators so we know both the risks kids take and the risks of stumbling into something nastty on the computer, so for now we're pretty strict about keeping it like this.

We do the same thing. Our computer will always be where we can see our children also. They are already aware that a computer is not allowed in their room period.

Our daughter has her own computer in room but it doesn't have internet access- we built it without a modem. We have no problem with homework being done out of sight, just online activities.
