These Razr phones are everywhere! It seems like everyone has one. Is there something special about this phone or is it just the latest trend?

I have one. Well a first generation one.
I like it for the following:

Slim
Flip
Large Screen
MP3 Ringtones
Mini USB port

Why I dont like it
Drivers on machine to hook up to the phone via USB (so charging via usb is a pain)
Can't have MP3 music because 2 songs will take up all the internal memory (the newer ones have larger memory sizes for mp3s)
Camera is only VGA

But then I have my Nano so I don't need an MP3 player. Though I do wish I had the opportunity to by the one with the 1.3MP camera....

I just got one because it was the simplest phone they would sell me. Also, they're cheap ($59.00 after mail-in rebate).

Everything else had all those incredibly annoying features I hate and don't want, and I'm NOT happy I had to have a camera, but what do you do? Apparently, the telecommunications industry is under the impression we're all 16 and want MP3 players, IM, text, cameras, internet, and shoe shiners included in our phones. Me, I want to speak to people verbally.

I didn't realize that they were that cheap. For some reason I just thought they were more exspensive than other phones. I am with you thought when I buy a phone I am not looking for a ton of features that I will never use or want for that matter.

I'm more curious about the Razr 2!

Is that also known as Krazr? If so, they tried to sell me that one (it's about $200 more). Differences being a better camera, flash option for pictures, MP3 player, and a choice of four colours rather than two.

If it's a new thing, then I've just wasted typing time.

SO very true! I just want a good phone. I want one with good reception and won't drop calls. I don't want to surf the 'Net on my phone. I don't want to watch music videos or download music on my phone. It is a PHONE, for goodness' sakes.

My SIL works for Verizon, and she talked us out of the Razr. She said it is just a big gimmick and the actual phone was poor quality.

I heard that people either have a great experience with the Razr or a really poor one.
I'm shopping for a new phone, but I really don't need one that plays MP3s. I make phone calls and I send text messages. What matters to me is reception and battery life! I guess I like having a camera in the phone, too, but I hardly ever use it.

I would use the camera more if it was better and they weren't interpolated.

I like my razr. For me reception isn't bad and its a few days between charges (if I use it lots).

I mainly just text on my phone. The camera part would be where I would go 'damn, wish I had my camera with me' type scenarios :) Carrying around a dSLR camera everywhere you go can be a little much.

A flash would be nice for indoor shots. I care not for video.

I like the concept of the extra features (camera, video, etc.) but have no idea how to get them off of the phone and into a program I know how to use?!?! As for the previous post about the Krazr....$200 for a phone? That is unbelievable! Is there a simpler phone the rest of you use that you really like? I'm open to suggestions!

Unfortunately, that's normal. Most of the phones I was looking at ranged from $150 to $350.

As for battery life, I haven't noticed any better or worse battery life than on my old (really old...more than four years) phone. Reception - the jury's still out. The biggest problem I have with reception is at my house (which is a whopping 500 yards from the nearest tower), and I've only been there for about six hours since I got the Razr.

Edit:
On second thought, the battery is actually worse. It was fully charged when I left the house tonight, I had one 35-minute conversation, and I'm down to half battery already.
