I use this one from OTTO: http://www.hearotto.com/Products_OT1.aspx and I'm thinking of also getting their car kit. I like it cuz it was cheap, and it fits my head well, plus I'm sick of giving money to cell service providers.

The Plantronics Discovery 665 (http://www.plantronics.com/north_america/en_US/products/cat1150057/cat1150057/prod5750003) is the best by far. It uses an advanced DSP that properly separates your voice from the background noise. It's so good I can hear a conversation when my stereo is cranked.

It's also small and compact so it doesn't look like some ugly appendage growing off yoru ear. I barely notice that its there.

You get what you pay for. Cheap headsets suck and they never get used again.

while we're here...

is there such a thing as a bluetooth stereo headphone that I can use with a MP3 cell phone?

Funny you should ask that...

The phone has to support the stereo profile though. I have an older Samsung that does MP3, but it does not support stereo through BlueTooth.

now back on topic...

I use the Scala 500. don't really know how it compares to other since this it my first and only one I've used. very happy with it so far, and have no problems with it. only thing I notice is that people look at you funny when you use these things. it does look like you're talking to youself..

I think some of these geezers wear them to look more geeky than they are or to be seen as being on the cutting edge. Most of them around here seem to talk louder than what is neccessary. Ehh, flipping posers. Sad lot.

I think people use them because they think it makes them look "cool". just the opposite IMO. the only time I use mine is when I'm driving. I find that the cord use to get in the way when I'm shaving, drinking coffee, taking messages, and trying to program my mp3 player while I'm trying to shift and steer.

You're not here in Winnipeg. What I am referring to are those folks out socially that have them on. During the day, in business clothes and talking quietly, I have no problem with those folks whatsover. Business is business, efficiency and comfort are key. But not "playing" to look smart.

I disagree. I think often you are paying for advertising, not for quality headsets. I'm not gonna argue with your choice, because it's superior, but the Otto headset I have was only $70, and I'd compare it to the $160 headset I had last (Motorola).

I had a box full of cheap bluetooth headsets at one point. None of them namebrand, but they all fit funny, and they were lame when it came to performance. I'm not a fan of Motorola Headsets either. For that matter, I've never been a Motorola fan period.

A good headset should offer measures of adjustability via different ear pieces or loops to provide for a perfect fit. No ones ears are universal. Next, it should also offer superior noise cancellation characteristics so that you aren't constantly having to take off your headset and move to the phone itself. This is not a function of volume. This is a function of the circuitry inside the headset and how it is able to discard noise and enhance voice. These features come at a price, but they are worth it.

If a headset doesn't have all of the above, I quickly pass it by. Without the two things together, the headset might perform well, but be totally uncomfortable for some people for all day wear. Having adjustablility takes away that question mark and allows the headset to avoid having to be just another discard. Discarding headsets is expensive. Buying the right one first is not.

Plantronics seems to get this right. They actually have a "WALL OF EARS". If one of their designs does not fit well on at leats 80% of these ears, it goes back to the drawing board. Their DSP is definitely one of the best I've heard. Remember "One small step for man. One Giant Leap for mankind?". That was a Plantronics Headset.

I'm extremely fussy about headsets also. Over the years while living at home I couldn't play my music as loud as I wanted to, ditto to living in apartments, no matter how old and thick the walls were. Also being an early riser, I had to employ heads to listen to my tunes. That's also why I have multiple radios around in my apartment. One in the kitchen, full audio rig in L.R., another radio in the main hallway and one in my bedroom. One thing I learned is that if you have poorly designed/fitting/sounding headphones, you are going to be one cranky customer. Get ones that fit and work very well, forget the cost.

It's kind of funny that technology is being broadsided by the shape of people's heads! It is important to me that they fit right. The one I have now is not so adjustable, but it happens to fit my head perfectly.
