I cannot get over how friggin TINY this thing is!!! Our department at work pooled out money to get a Shuffle and an ILive for a teenager in the hospital. I took it out to download some songs onto it, and almost fell out of my chair. The sound is great, too!

Now, I want one! I don't know if I want one THAT tiny, though. So... a Nano might be better for me.

I bought one for my 18 year old daughter - todays her birthday and we've spent a good two hours trying to get it to work.

We're charging the battery, hopefully that's all thats wrong.

Mind describing the issues you've been having?

This are getting too small. I think the original iPod had the perfect size.

Sure.

Well, with the help of an Apple customer service person Saturday, we did get it to download Itunes. (It took him a few times through to get it working, not sure why.)

However, Itunes is expensive, and there are other music services that are free (Limewire) or much cheaper (Emusic.com.) but we've not been able to figure out how to get the music on our IPOD.

I managed to get a song file from Limewire over to Itunes, and had it in a shared filed - but then, how do I get it to download into my IPOD? The drag and drop principal doesn't work with the Limewire files.

I couldn't believe the size either when I first seen it. I'm glad to hear the the sound is good though. I personally would rather have a shuffle. I like to hear a variety of music.

From another forum I visit, I gather that many people are sorry that they ordered Ipods for Christmas, instead of a regular MP3 player.

I, like many others, had no idea that you have to purchase your songs from Itunes. It's interesting to see that Limewire and Itunes are the hottest hit websites in the past day!

Keep in mind there's other software out there that can interact with the iPod - not just iTunes - there are other options available.

I like the iPod but I agree that iTunes is not very flexible.

What about the Zune? Has anyone bought one of these or heard how they compare to the IPod? They look pretty good to me but that is just from seeing them. I have no clue how the work.

Well, I tried limewire and emusic.com, and so far, can't get them to work.

My daughter, and her new IPOD, are visiting friends for a few days, and I'll return to the task when she gets back.

ZUNE is dying quite quickly from most reports. It's a real shame. I actually do want to check one of them out, but I think the size of the ZUNE is hurting it. It's not the do it all machine that other MP3 players are due to the size of the unit. It would be really cool if the ZUNE offered a ZUNE-MINI that would take advantage of the ZUNE's wireless capability and sync itself to the Papa Zune. Then tunes can go jogging with you or travel with you to places you don't need the full size machine.

I've never been a fan of the iPod. What I'm hearing here just makes me more vigilant in my stance towards them. The iPod will be it's own undoing as people get over the "Fashion" aspects of those devices.

I just got the new iPod shuffle for Christmas. I feel like I'm going to break it or lose it! I already have a nano, so I'm not sure how much I'll be using this one. It would be great for car trips, I think, but I need to get the adapter.

I like the idea of the Shuffle but practically I enjoy much more control over what I'm listening to right now. I probably don't "need" a different player just to have a size decrease when I have a nano.

I hadn't really thought about the fact that since Apple makes the IPOD, it's more compatible with Mac's and that it has limited compatibility with downloaded music files.

That's a real turn-off for me now, and as I said upthread, I wouldn't have purchased one if I had known earlier.

The iPods are great for some things - but they are limited in flexibility, that much is true. My iRiver is very easy to work with but the iPod - well, you have to use Apple's software or other software to even add music to it.

I'm not aware that you did. I've downloaded remixes of video game music off of the net and torrent and they seem to be working ok... maybe the newer music tracks have the DRM working against you?

It should just be like... add the music files to your library in iTunes and then drag and drop the file onto the iPod/shuffle that shows up in the left task panel.

Right. I've had no problem adding my entire library of MP3s to my iPod, nor adding any of my CD content that I've ripped...

Ah, something illegal right there :P My friend purchased a "blue ant" thing, which was like an ipod, but no body, just two earphones. Like bluetooth, but easier to use.

My husband has an IRiver, and he loves it. It is a couple of years old, though, and doesn't hold many songs. He only uses ITunes, so was planning on getting an IPod Nano for himself. It is so much easier to just click and drag the songs with the IPod.

I guess if he used another music source other than ITunes, it would be more of an issue. It is a bit of a pain with his IRiver, but he is used to it.

Yep, IRivers are nice. I saw one that my friend had, but it isn't as easy to use as a iPod, IMO. The good thing about it is that it will have longer-life batteries, because scrolling on an iPod's circle thing kills its batteries.
