I can't see myself getting one of these...too expensive for a "luxury" I don't need. If I want to watch DVDs, I'll stay at home :) Does anyone have one? How is the battery life?

I use my laptop normally if I need to watch something on the road. I don't normally have time to watch movies when I am on the road. I'd rather be doing something else, unless I'm at home. Then I have a home theatre system so I can truly enjoy a movie.

We don't have one yet but want to get one eventually. They are great for travelling with kids. We borrowed one last year when we decide to drive to a family reunion with my ten year old step son. We didn't let him watch it the whole trip (you do have to enjoy some scenery). However, driving across the Saskatchewan prairies is just not that exciting!

The thing I always hated was the life of the battery. I remember in the time that they were new, some of them would only last for about 2 hours...

I could see a portable dvd player being good for trips...heck, they even make ones that strap to the back of the front seats now for any kids (or adults) watching in the back.

Still, sometimes I am frightened by the need of people to be watching a screen 24/7...oh wait, that's me with my laptop half the time.

I think that it's true that the best use for trips, is so that kids/infants can shut the h...I mean stay peacefully quiet.

I don't have children, but...what about just giving them books to read instead?

My stepson is a reader but on long trips even The Hardy Boys can get boring after a while. Variety is the spice of life!

After all the restrictions from the attempted terror plot, I think that sales of these little buggers will tank big time. People take them on planes all the time. They better be handing out more peanuts on my next flight. Otherwise, I'm going to go insane.

I need my toyz!

I got my portable dvd player for free when I signed up with Direct TV. I love the thing :) I use it when I'm in the kitchen working or out on the deck tanning. Oddly enough, the other day I was watching old Hardy Boys shows on it.. heh My stepson is a reader but on long trips even The Hardy Boys can get boring after a while. Variety is the spice of life!
