Memory: What is it? How does it work? What kinds are there? We try to answer almost everything you can possibly think of, and maybe bring up a few things you didn't think mattered!

Hi
first of all, sorry for my bad english.
i've read a part of your guide, about the laptop's memory.
I've got a question :
on
Corsair 512MB DDR PC2100 64x64 200Pin
and Corsair 256MB DDR PC2100 32x64 200Pin
what does 64x64 and 32x64 mean ?
Does all the SODIMM Memory are 200Pin or are there any with different numbers of pin ?
thanks a lot for your response

If I'm not mistaken, I think that refers to the density of the chips? Maybe SuperAL can clarify.
SODIMM memory, non DDR, can be 144 pin. A lot of notebooks use the regular PC133 or PC100 SODIMM. The newer notebooks use DDR PC2100 200 Pin. I have a Tablet PC that uses regular 144 pin PC133 SODIMM's.

Kudos to the author of that guide. I think that many people lack the knowledge on RAM. Especially when there are so many different types. :)

whoa boy... forgot about checking this thread
In answer to your questions (so sorry I didn't get to them sooner!):
laptop memory: 200 pin is DDR
64x64 is the density and ram chip memory capacity. 64x64 = 64 bit memory module with 64 MegaBytes per ram chip.
64x32 is 64 bit memory module with 32MB per chip. The memory module will have varying numbers of these chips. On the desktop, some have 8 or 16 chips (two sides). That gives 256 or 512MB per memory module with 64x32.
I believe I had an example in the article... we really need a table of contents!
