Thermaltake XTunner 4 Fan Speed by IR Remote Control Kit Review

The XTunner is made for the computer enthusiast who wants the works for his computer case. With CPU running warmer and hotter, more people are adding on a lot more fans to help keep the CPU and devices inside the computer cool. Fans make noise, sometimes a lot of noise. This kit is here to lower the noise level when appropriate.

What’s in the Box?

It comes complete with a 5 1/4in bay face plate that has LED’s for speed and a nifty credit card thin remote control. It can control up to 4 fans (including the CPU fan) with 4 fan speeds via the remote. Don’t lose the remote as there’s no bypass on the panel.

Setting it up

Installation is simple enough but the documentation could be written more clearly. All bridging connecting cords are included.

Impressions

Instead of the LED lights, it would be more fun to have LCD RPM readouts for each fan, plus a temperature reading for the case environment. That would allow for an easier decision to turn up or turn down the fan speeds. The device might make my days of leaving the side of the computer open to cool it “au naturalel” a thing of the past. It does add a few more green and red LEDs to my LED filled office at night.

Performance

The XTunner is a rheostat that regulates the fan speeds up to 4 connected fans, including the CPU and power supply fan on newer systems. It will only control auxiliary fans on older systems. It changes the fan speed at preset speeds. It would be helpful to know what those speeds are.
