Viva la Revolution

M-Audio Revolution 7.1 High Definition Surround Sound Card

So what do you get when you cross a leading Music Professional Audio company with an entry level consumer product? Well thats what we are here to find out, right? M-Audio a leading manufacturer of high end professional audio hardware has delivered an entry level consumer soundcard in the form of the Revolution 7.1. I was very surprised to hear that M-Audio had come out with a consumer level soundcard but I knew it was just a matter of time. Furthermore I knew that if it was and M-Audio product based on how these guys build pro audio gear I knew it would be a good one.

Fortunately I have had the opportunity to use a variety of products from the M-Audio family for quite sometime. I was looking forward to putting my ears to the test with the Revolution.

First Impressons

At first glance the Revolution comes packed with a Heap of software that will make the average consumer very happy. We're talking games, music software and DVD players, yeehaw. The fact that it supports up to 7.1 is nothing to sneeze at either, but like most people 2 speakers is the norm, I fortunately had four to test out.

The card features sound processing capabilities that include SRS TruSurround XT, Circle Surround II and TruBass to give you control over how things sound in your environment.

So, what do I get?

In the box you will find some great software to keep you happy for awhile including a game and some music software. If you hav'nt made the leap into the world of computer music production, the Revolution includes, a full version of the very popular Mixman Studio (must be downloaded) and VJ Lite. If your a skating gaming fan, a full version of Tony Hawks Pro Skater 3 will more than get your mojo going for hours of fun.
