Company: Viewsonic

Viewsonic VB50HRTV External TV Tuner

Introduction:

Upon hearing the name Viewsonic, the first thing that many people think of is monitors. Considering their strong market presence in this category, it is certainly not surprising. Lately, Viewsonic has produced several other devices such as tablet PCs, projectors, and even keyboards. The product being looked at today is another innovative idea from Viewsonic the VB50HRTV TV Tuner.

While the Viewsonic tuner turns any monitor into a television, the way it handles this is quite different. Rather than using a computer-dependent device such as an internal PCI card or USB device, this product does not require the use of a computer at all, although one can easily be attached if required.

Features:

Aside from functioning as a standard 125-channel television, the Viewsonic VB50HRTV offers composite & S-Video inputs for hooking up a DVD player or video game console (or anything else equipped with these connectors).

Perhaps the most interesting feature however, is the one that makes it worthwhile for use with a computer monitor, which is the ability to output an image at up to 1024x768 resolution. Considering an average television doesn't even offer a full 640x480 resolution, this is definitely a useful feature.
