Steelseries
is a company that was built from the ground up to address the needs of the gamer. Based in Denmark, they design and manufacture a wide range of products from professional grade mouse pads to keyboards and a series of special edition Steelseries mice in collaboration with Microsoft. One of their major staple categories is gaming headsets. Today we'll be looking at one of their entry level units, the Steelseries Steelsound 3H to see if all that feedback truly makes a better gaming product.

The Steelseries Steelsound 3H Gaming Headset came to us slightly beaten and battered in its original packaging so we've used the canned shot. It definitely wasn't pretty and I was worried that the contents were toast. Fortunately, they survived unscathed and that impressed me right off that bat. Although it isn't one of the selling features, this headset is definitely durable!
Features
Other features besides the surprising durability include...
- Foldable/collapsible lightweight gaming headset
- Retractable non-directional microphone system
- Comfortable to use, easy to transport
- Developed in cooperation with professional gamers
- Strong bass for optimal in-game sound projection
- Optimized for RTS and MMO games
- 40mm SteelSound SunDancer(LCP) Units
Specifications
Because this is a gaming headset, specifications are split up in two for both the microphone and the headphone:
Headphones
- Frequency response: 10 - 27.000 Hz
- Impedance: 50 Ohm
- SPL@1kHz
, 1Vrms: 102dB
- Cable: 2 meters (6.5 feet)
Microphone
- Frequency response: 50 - 18.000 Hz
- Pick up pattern: Non-directional
- Sensitivity: -40 dB
- Impedance: 2.2K Ohm
The drivers are spec'd to produce a nice wide range of frequencies and a quite efficient, lending them to be driven easily from any source. The microphone lacks any noise cancelling capabilities that may hinder its use in a noisy gaming environment like a Lan Party, however, gaming by yourself in the comfort of your own home should not pose an issue.
What's in the Box?

After we extracted the headset from a package that had obviously seen better days, we get the headphone itself. There is a small piece of paper that warns you to keep the volume low and some brochures inside but its pretty much the Steelsound 3H show.
