When it comes to memory products,
OCZ Technology is one
of the better known brands in the enthusiast space. Besides making some of the
fastest RAM on the planet, they also make a bunch of memory products including
USB Flash Drives and other flash based products. One such product is the
Secure Digital Trifecta 1 GB memory card that incorporates a trio of functions
including Micros SD/ SD/ and USB flash drive all in one. Hence, the
Trifecta!

This is one of those products that make you wonder why no one had thought of
it before. Designed for phones, PDA's, and other portable devices, the Trifecta
gives you a way to retrieve your data without a card reader or data cable
through the built in USB connection that pretty much any computer has these
days. It also gives you the convenience of using one card for your SD
based camera and your Micro SD based cellphone. One thing that I have
noticed with camera phone users is that the pictures never come off the camera.
With the Trifecta it's easy as one, two three... Trifecta!

Most memory products, including OCZ's own, come with a lifetime warranty so
it is a little disappointing that the Trifecta doesn't have the same. Of course,
after five years, you'll probably be going for an even larger memory card. The
Trifectas come in 1 GB (tested) and 2 GB sizes.
The Transforming Trifecta
Let the transformations begin...

First off, the Trifecta starts off as a Secure Digital Memory card that fits
into any spot that you'd shove an SD or MMC memory card. Tucked into its side is
a 1 GB Micro SD compliant memory card. There's the one and the two.

The third transformation is in the form of a USB connector. The back
plate slides off to reveal a single sided USB connector that will fit into any
standard USB 2.0 port. It is also backwards compatible with USB 1.1 ports
on older PC's. The unit is fairly sturdy and well made allowing you to transform
it for hours on end when you're bored.

When you plug the card into a USB port via its built in connector, a blue LED
lights up indicating activity. This was somewhat of a concern because the light
could use up additional power in portable devices. Unfortunately, like the
refrigerator light, I was unable to see if it was actually on inside the card
reader when in SD mode. I can tell you that in naked Micro SD mode, there
is no LED activity light.
