OCZ Rally 2 4GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive Review

  Submitted: 07-16-2007

 Summary:
Long known for fast and reliable computer memory, OCZ Technology is also known for making some of the fastest USB flash drives on the planet. The Rally 2 is the follow up to the legendary Rally Drives known for their speed and build quality. Does the Rally 2 honour its predecessor? Let's find out!

OCZ Technology might still be lurking in Sandisk's shadow among mainstream consumers, but with fantastic thumb drives like the OCZ Rally2, they'll be flying into the forefront in no time. Yes, I am quite happy with this USB drive, and I'll tell you why.

Specifications and Features

For the purposes of this review, we'll be talking about the 4GB OCZ Rally2 Flash Drive, though most of the impressions and opinions expressed can probably be generalized to the rest of the Rally2 product line. Let's have a look at the official specs, as listed on the OCZ Technology website.

  • Dual Channel Technology

What's in the Box?

Well, I use the term "box" loosely, but you get what I mean. For the most part, having extra accessories to accompany a flash drive seems like an act in futility, but that didn't stop OCZ from throwing in a couple of extra goodies that will hopefully set this drive apart from others with equivalent specs and performance stats.

First, the basic cloth lanyard attaches to the Rally2 through a simple loop mechanism. If you really want to get your geek on, then you can dangle this flash drive from your neck. Second, OCZ has also included a USB extension cable. This accessory can actually be quite useful, especially if you've got a desktop tower that lacks any USB ports on the front. Simply make use of this cable and make for a more accessible USB port yourself. Good stuff.
