Logitech VX Revolution Cordless Laser Mouse for Notebooks Review

  Submitted: 07-10-2007

 Summary:
Logitech has been in the mouse and keyboard business for a very long time and we have come to expect quality and performance from them. Their latest notebook mouse called the VX Revolution comes from this pedigree and we've got one here today to check out. Let's find out how it performs!

One of the more expensive notebook mice currently available is the Logitech VX Revolution laser mouse. Unlike so many other offerings on the market, this one actually seems like it's worth the price of admission.

For starters, it features a high precision performance laser, ensuring that you will enjoy the most accurate and responsive mousing experience possible. In using this mouse, I found that it worked equally well on just about any surface, whether it be a professional gaming mouse pad or ragged tablecloth. It didn't matter, because the laser worked very, very well.

This is Logitech that we're talking about, so you can have a lot of confidence in the build quality as well, especially considering that this mouse is right near the top of the line. Before we go any further, let's go through the main specifications and features that Logitech is boasting with the VX.

Features

The Logitech VX Revolution packs in the following features...

  • MicroGear hyper-fast scrolling with free spin mode
  • Horizontal scrolling
  • Dedicated search button (top)
  • High-resolution zoom
  • Forward and back buttons (side)
  • Performance laser
  • Storable 2.4GHz micro-receiver
  • SetPoint software for customization
  • Powered by single AA battery

What's in the Box?

Honestly, not much. Then again, what did you expect from a computer mouse? Because this is a wireless mouse, there's no USB cable to speak of, nor is there any sort of PS/2 legacy adapter. Instead, Logitech has gone with some sort of propriety 2.4GHz wireless standard. In addition to the mouse itself, you get a single AA alkaline battery (I recommend that you use your own NiMH rechargeable battery instead), a basic user manual, and a CD with the custom Logitech SetPoint software.

To achieve basic functionality with this mouse, there is no need to install any software and thus, it is completely plug and play. The dedicated search button on the top of mouse, slightly below the scroll wheel, defaults to Window Search. To get the most of the VX Revolution, however, you'll need to install the SetPoint software. After installing the software, you will then be able to customize each of the buttons. Also, without SetPoint, the zoom slider will not work at all. The forward and back buttons do, however.
