Nyko Charge Station 360 for Xbox 360 Controllers Reviewed

  Submitted: 07-23-2007

 Summary:
If there is one thing common to all wireless controllers, it is batteries. Or rather, the lack of when you need them the most. Nyko has a battery solution that wants to pwn your Energizers. Does it have the power? Check it out!

There are few things more frustrating than having a wireless controller run out of batteries when you are trying to chainsaw someones face off. Although wireless freedom is usually great, managing 16 different AAs can be a major pain in the butt. Not to worry! The folks at Nyko work tirelessly to help you avoid getting pwned, and to save you a few bucks in the process.

The Nyko Charge Staton 360 Power Kit provides extra power and convenience for those late nights of fragging. A convenient charge station gives you a place to plop those batteries after the day is done and even comes in a black version for those of us that splurged on the Xbox 360 Elite.

Features

The Nyko Charge Station 360 Power Kit features:

  • Dual charging stations
  • Two battery packs included
  • Indicator light to let you know when the batteries are good to go
  • Play and charge cable to keep the action going

Sounds like everything you'd want in a power charge kit. Just in case you run out of juice, you can still use the play and charge cable to keep it going.

What's in the box?

Inside the finger ripping blister pack, you will find the following stuff:

  • Two NiMH battery packs
  • Controller Play and Charge Cable
  • Instruction pamphlet

The pamphlet is truly a pamphlet. They must think all gamers are pretty smart and we thank you, but there has to be that one gamer that is dumb that will spoil it for everyone. Fatten up the pamphlet into a manual to cover your ass I say.

Impressions and Setup

Unfortunately for those who get excited for new toys, the batteries will require some time in the charger before use. The charging base itself has typical Xbox 360 stylings with a chrome-like base. On the base are two indicator lights that change to red when charging and green when the batteries are ready to rock.

First thing I noticed on picking up the controller after installing the battery pack is that they  weighed quite a bit more than with my previous energizers installed. Was it because they contained more power? Sort of. The charge station plugs into a regular wall socket.  Just plop in the batteries and away you go.
