OCZ Equalizer Mobile Gaming Mouse Reviewed

  Submitted: 05-17-2007

 Summary:
In the high speed world of gaming having the right mouse can mean the difference between pwning, and being pwned. OCZ has been helping people pwn for years with their RAM, but what do they know about peripherals? Let’s find out!

It's on fire!

OCZ Technology has joined the mousing game with the release of their Equalizer Laser Gaming Mouse products. The Equalizer is released in two SKU's: Mobile and Desktop.  The mobile version that we're looking at today is roughly 2/3 the size of a normal mouse and is comparable to most mobile mice we see today. With the advent of highly powerful mobile graphics on laptops many people are turning to them as an all in one desktop replacement.  Since the majority of my gaming is done on my laptop, I was looking forward to seeing how a dedicated mouse could make my gaming better.

Its not the size that matters; it's how you use it!

The first thing you notice with the Mobile Equalizer is the striking design. The mouse just looks cool. The metallic blue contrasts perfectly with the black and orange to create a package that is fits together quite nicely. The last thing I noticed right away was that in addition to the cord's excessive length (about 6 feet), it was also excessively skinny. The cord can't be much thicker than a strand of spaghetti.  Also, since most people are sitting in front of the laptop with the mouse fairly close, the 6 feet of slack really didn't make sense. Perhaps OCZ could look at a cable management system to shorten the length.

A "no tools required" opening.

Included in the box is the instruction booklet, a driver installation CD, some extra feet for the bottom of the mouse when you wear them out, and of course the mouse itself. Although the driver installation disc allows more flexibility and button programming, the mouse will work out of the box like a good USB device should.
