Antec is not only
legendary for their cases, but they make some of the best power supplies out
there. Their TruePower series of power supplies have won a lot of awards
over the years. However, at the same time, a lot of other companies have
entered the market and have started to make some great power supplies too.

Today, we check out Antec's latest series of power supplies known as the
TruePower Trio. The Trio in the name stands for three 12 volt rails.
I guess it also stands for the three models: 430 Watt, 550 Watt and 650 Watt.
The main difference between the three units, in addition to power, is the SLI
capabilities.
The 430 Watt model only has a single PCI-E connector and is the only one that
isn't SLI Ready, while the 550 Watt model has two PCI-E connectors and is SLI
Ready. The 650 Watt model is also SLI Ready and is the only one of the
three that can power a Quad SLI setup.
Features (650 Watt Unit)
- NVIDIA Quad SLI certified
- Universal Input, automatically adjusts for 100V to 240V power grids
- Active Power Factor Correction (PFC) for environmentally friendlier
power
- Three 12V output circuits provide added system stability
- Accurate power rating allows TruePower Trio to deliver its full rated
power, 24 hours a day rated at 50şC
- Up to 85% efficiency
- 120mm low noise cooling fan
- Fan Only power connectors allow TruePower Trio to control case fan
speeds, reducing total system noise
- Dedicated outputs for stable output and less ripple noise
- Feedback loop circuits for tighter load regulation (ą3%) to maintain
accurate voltage to all components
- Heavy duty protection circuitry prevents damage resulting from short
circuits (SCP), power overloads (OPP), over voltages (OVP), and under
voltages (UVP)
- 4 SATA connectors for Serial ATA drives
- MTBF: 80,000 hours at 25°C
- Safety approvals: UL, CUL, FCC, TÜV, CE, C-tick, CCC, CB
- Power Factor value up to 99%
- Gold plated connectors for superior conductivity
- AQ5 - 5 year warranty
- Dimensions: 3.5" (H) x 5.8" (W) x 5.5" (D)
- Weight: 3.8lbs
The Trios carry some very impressive specs, but how does that translate to
real world performance? Today we check out the Antec TruePower Trio 650
Watt model and torture it as best as we can to see if we could get it to buckle.
