ECS PN1 SLI2 Motherboard Review

  Submitted: 01-05-2007

 Summary:
With AMD and ATI merged, there is only one other game in town: INTEL and NVIDIA. The PN1 SLI2 matches up the INTEL Core 2 DUO to a NVIDIA 590 SLI Chipset. As one of ECS's "EXTREME" products, the board certainly does look the part. It also has one of the most complete bundles and a new black PCB. But does it perform? Let's find out!

ECS continues to push their Extreme line of motherboards, and this time we have a look at the PN1 SLI2: An INTEL Core 2 DUO offering with an NVIDIA nFORCE 590 SLI Chipset onboard for extreme graphics performance when configured with two NVIDIA SLI Video Cards.  As with all their Intel Extreme motherboards, the box sports a blue and black scheme - hard to miss and quite sexy I might add.

Inside the Box

Upon opening the box, we found the "regular" array of cables we've found with previous Extreme motherboards:

  • 4x SATA cables, 1x 4-pin Molex to two SATA power adapter cable
  • 1x CDROM, 1x EIDE, 1x floppy
  • 1x 3' RJ45 cable (CAT5E)
  • 1x eSATA expansion port and cable
  • 1x USB and firewire expansion
  • 1x rear panel plate
  • 1x SLI connector, 1x SLI card holder

Yes, believe it or not, this is actually regular for ECS boards to come with all these extra bits, making their boards great for even a first time system builder.  Everything you need is pretty much included.
