When NZXT
went out to create the "ADAMAS" Premium Aluminum Case, they weren't looking to
break any lightweight aluminum case records. In fact, if there was a
record for the heaviest aluminum case, this one would probably win. Heck,
it's heavy enough to beat a lot of steel cases.
In development, the ADAMAS was called the "Hummer" case.
However, because NZXT is known for "Finely Crafted Gaming Armour", naming it
after a heavy, and somewhat bulky domestic gas guzzling military vehicle no
longer sounded like such a great idea. So they named it "ADAMAS".
If you watch Battlestar Galactica (The new series-not the old series with
the Disco Music), you know that Admiral Adama is tough and unconquerable, and
apparently so is the case. NZXT based it on the actual definition of
the word:
"Latin adams, adamant-, from Greek, unconquerable,
impenetrable, hard. A legendary stone of impenetrable hardness, formerly
sometimes identified with the diamond."
...but I like my story of origin better.
So is the ADAMAS going to be one of those unique, but totally
bumbling designs that die off in one revision, or will it survive as a true
classic? Without further adieu, let's see how the NZXT ADAMAS survives the
final inspection and find out if it will reach legendary HERO status.
